I’ve been bit…

They say some get bit by the “Acting Bug.” and I’ve never really understood that until recently. I’ve always been curios and was intrigued by the film industry. New Orleans and the surrounding areas have been making movies left and right, about a year ago I learned that they were filming Pitch Perfect 2 in Baton Rouge and I saw an open casting call and thought…”aw what the hell,” and I submitted my information.

Few hours later I got the phone call and casting told me I was one of six other girls being considered for a featured role, I never got the part, however I did get a part in a “cattle call,’ a scene with about 150 other people. I got to set and saw all of these other people and I remember thinking to myself, “are they here for the money or are they here for the thrill? Or are there here for their own hopes and dreams?” I was there for my own hopes and dreams; I mean I did make it to set after all. After being corralled all day, I was sitting in the seat in the “Kennedy Center” scene and I thought to myself, “I’ve got too much talent to be sitting in the background,” so I left. After that my hopes and dreams withered away and I stopped checking my casting file, until I heard FOX was filming Scream Queens in New Orleans. This sparked my interest. From what I had researched about the show it was filled with a lot of girls who were not like me, at all, but I felt that I could possibly have what it takes to be on the show. I was right. I got yet another casting email saying they were submitting my profile to the Director. Let the nerves begin. They next day I was at lunch with my mom and I didn’t want to speak much bout the part because I didn’t want to jinx myself like I did last time. Long story short I get back in my car and I checked my phone and realized I had a missed call and a voicemail. SURELY it wasn’t from casting I thought. But it was. It might have been the luck of the draw but I didn’t care. I GOT THE PART! I don’t want to speak much about the show or my time on set, but it was an INCREDIBLE experience and I’m craving more. The point of this blog post was really about unanswered prayers in a strange way. I’ve been looking to further my career and trying to figure out what I want to do with my future. I tried to change my degree to teaching but I was told I would lose 40 credit hours, I tried to continue my marketing degree but I keep getting pushed back and I was getting so discouraged. This morning I thought about maybe considering changing my major to Theatre; would you believe me if I told you this was the best route for me and I could possibly graduate even sooner than I planned? It’s crazy how things work out. With that being said I hope y’all are feeling inspired and I hope this song lyric finds you well, as it did for me. Everything fell into place and then I heard “Firework” by Katy Perry which I’ve heard a million plus times, this time, this verse spoke out to me…

Maybe a reason why all the doors are closed So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road Like a lightning bolt, your heart will glow And when it’s time you’ll knowYou just gotta ignite the light and let it shine.
