An Open Letter To My Home Team

Everybody has a home team: It’s the people you call when you get a flat tire or when something terrible happens. It’s the people who, near or far, know everything that’s wrong with you and love you anyways. These are the ones who tell you their secrets, who get themselves a glass of water without asking when they’re at your house. These are your people, your middle-of-the-night, no-matter-what people.”

Back in early December of 2016, I remember thinking about how good life has been to me, I  was astounded. I had a husband, friends, family, a career…everything I’ve ever wanted. Until December 26th. December 26th, the day the life I thought I wanted; ended. I had spoken too soon.

I wont go into details…yet. I will say a few things though, I’ll leave the rest up to your imagination. Things are different now, I’ve heard people say…your life can change in a split second; they were right. I know first hand. I lost my home, my husband, friends, family and so much more…

Here’s what I gained: My freedom, loyal friends, new family, happiness, confidence, and most importantly…reassurance. Reassurance that the life I thought I wanted…wasn’t the life that was truly meant for me. Despite the terrible events that have led to this moment, I’m happy. I have a few people to thank for that…my home team. My family and friends. You know who you are…This is for you:

Incase I haven’t told you a million times, I love you. I’m so incredibly thankful for you. Thank you for answering my phone calls, thank you for calling me, thank you for your text messages, your unconditional love, your support, your concern, your help, your shoulder, your couch, your, laugh, your everything…you’re everything. The past few weeks have been more than difficult for me and I appreciate your support and our bond. Thank you for everything.

To the ones I’m leaving behind…Know that I love you. Know that I’m happy. Know that I am living my life for me and without fear. Know that I’m only a phone call and a two hour plane ride away. Know that I’m still here for you. Know that life can only get better from here. Know that this is not easy for me, as I know it is not easy for you. Know that this is me making the best of a terrible situation and most importantly know that I Love you.
